Imagiarium — Portraits of Cats, Frogs and Rubber Ducks

26 August – 14 September Studio, Järvenpää Art House

Imagiarium is an imaginative portrait series featuring cats, frogs and rubber ducks. The works play with traditional portrait conventions while simultaneously breaking them — instead of aristocrats or historical figures, the portraits depict frogs in unusual headpieces, rubber ducks in dramatic lighting, and cats gazing back with the same regal presence found in classical paintings of kings and nobles.

The Imagiarium world is inspired by childhood memories and the possibilities of AI-assisted sketching. I use AI during the ideation phase: I describe the concept, receive a reference image, and then paint a detailed artwork entirely by hand. AI acts as a creative assistant, offering unexpected details and surprises I might not have imagined myself. It does not replace the artist's hand — it expands the space for creative exploration.

Imagiarium is a journey between reality and imagination. Each piece tells its own story and invites the viewer into a world where the everyday becomes fantastical and the absurd finds its own logic.

Welcome to step into the Imagiarium — a place where cats, frogs and rubber ducks have more personality than you'd expect.
